What can OT do for you?

Occupational Therapists are trained in helping people use strategies to compensate for their limitations and maximize their strengths. Our training includes anatomy, physiology, development, cognition, and analysis of how interactions between a person, their environment, and their activity affect their performance.

Most people who know about OT are aware of only part of the full range of skills we can offer our clients. We work in community health, medical settings, hospice, schools, work sites, private clinics, and private homes. We focus on making people’s bodies and minds work the best they can, help make your environment support you better, and change how a task is done in order to get the best outcomes. We can function as trainers, coaches, accountability partners, and teachers.

Occupational Therapists use research to ensure that we are using the most effective methods of achieving goals, which is called evidence-based practice. Our goal is deliver value and work ourselves out of a job! However, the exciting part of Evidence-Based Practice is that it is the synergy of scientific evidence, the clinician’s experiences, and the client’s values and experiences.

In this section of the website I want to deliver high-quality, evidence-based articles to help you get started on your own as much as possible. Remember YOU are a vital part of the evidence-based practice process! At some point we can all use professional help, but you will get the best results with your OT sessions if you are informed and have already tried a few strategies on your own. This way we can dig in more quickly and get results more quickly!
